Kathmandu: Former Nepal captain Binod Kumar Das has been named Chief Operating Officer of the Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA).
Das has close to 30 years in cricket. He has served as a coach and administrator and he is an International Cricket Council (ICC) Master Educator.
Before joining MCA, he was Cricket Operations Manager at the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). He looked after cricket operations, high performance plans and national team affairs.
Das has also been Tournament Director for major ICC and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events. These include the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 and the ACC Men’s Premier Cup.
He has helped run advanced Level 2 and Level 3 coaching courses too. He has coached Nepal’s women’s national team and the men’s Under 19 team as well.
MCA President Mahinda Vallipuram welcomed the move. “Binod brings a valuable combination of international playing experience, technical knowledge and proven expertise in cricket operations,” he said.
He said Malaysia is focusing on high performance, stronger national teams and a higher ICC ranking.
Das said he was honoured to join. His first task, he said, is to work with the leadership team, coaches and players to strengthen the high performance environment and support the national teams.
“We must be ambitious about where Malaysian cricket can go,” Das said. He said clear targets and stronger development pathways can help Malaysia compete more often against stronger cricketing nations.
