Kathmandu: The Decision Review System (DRS) will be used for the first time in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced this news on Tuesday through social media.

Earlier, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka had said that work was going on to bring DRS to the NPL. He mentioned that technology testing with two companies had already finished. The final decision would come after checking how accurate the system is.

DRS is a popular technology in modern cricket. It gives teams a chance to review an umpire’s decision if they think it is wrong. This can help the bowling team take a wicket or help the batting team keep a player not out.

According to CAN, full 3D ball tracking technology will be used for LBW reviews in the NPL. Teams will also be able to review run outs, stumpings and no balls.

In addition, artificial intelligence (AI) will detect edges when the ball touches the bat. The system will also measure the wide balls due to height, the distance and height of sixes and provide other bowling statistics.

This move is expected to make decisions more accurate and fairer in the upcoming NPL season.
