Kavrepalanchok: Security forces successfully rescued 89 passengers who were stranded after a sudden flood in the Roshi River swept across the BP Highway on Tuesday night.

Five microbuses became trapped between Laskot and Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality-7 when the river swelled Sudden, turning the roadway into an island. According to Chief of Kavre Police Office, Komal Shah, all passengers were safely evacuated overnight.

A coordinated rescue operation was carried out by a joint team of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force. Chief District Officer Gopal Adhikari was also present on-site, overseeing the rescue efforts to ensure swift action.

The vehicles, en route to Kathmandu from various Tarai and hilly districts, were caught off guard by sudden rainfall that triggered the flooding. Authorities credited the successful rescue to the preparedness and swift response of the security forces.

The Roshi River has remained a persistent hazard for over two years, especially after a major flood damaged sections of the BP Highway along its banks. Although temporary diversions have been put in place, a permanent solution for the vulnerable 18 kilometer stretch is still pending.

Following the incident, traffic movement was halted vehicles heading east were stopped at Dhulikhel and Kavrebhanjyang, while those bound for Kathmandu were held at Mangaltar in Sindhuli, according to the District Traffic Office, Banepa.

Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to avoid the route during adverse weather conditions due to the risk of sudden flooding. The District Police Office, Dhulikhel, has also taken action against drivers who ignored warnings and continued travel despite the risks.

Officials have once again appealed to both drivers and passengers to remain cautious and prioritize safety while traveling through flood prone areas.
