KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has brought back 10 individuals who had fled abroad after allegedly committing crimes in Nepal, officials said.

The arrests were carried out in coordination with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), according to Nepal Police spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abhi Narayan Kafle.

Police said that during the current fiscal year, Interpol issued Red Notices against 11 individuals and Diffusion Notices against three at the request of Nepal’s National Central Bureau (NCB).

Of those, eight individuals subject to Red Notices and two under Diffusion Notices were arrested in various countries and returned to Nepal.

In the previous fiscal year, Red Notices were issued against 34 individuals and Diffusion Notices against two. Police said 17 people facing Red Notices and three under Diffusion Notices were subsequently arrested and repatriated.

Mr Kafle said Nepal Police remains actively engaged in tracing fugitives abroad in coordination with Interpol.

“No matter where criminals attempt to hide after committing crimes, Nepal Police is committed to bringing them to justice,” he said.

He added that security strategies have been strengthened to maintain law and order, ensure the smooth conduct of upcoming elections, and enhance crime investigation and control efforts.

Interpol notices are issued at the request of member countries to help locate and provisionally arrest individuals wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence.
